¹⁶ “^(A)They made Him jealous with strange gods;
^(B)With abominations they provoked Him to anger.
¹⁷ “^(C)They sacrificed to demons who were not God,
^(D)To gods whom they have not known,
^(E)New gods who came lately,
Whom your fathers did not dread.
¹⁸ “You neglected ^(F)the Rock who begot you,
^(G)And forgot the God who gave you birth.
